Black-and-White Stripes as a match (or a fab clash?) to the Bright and the Flowery

Spring style:
From the 10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

In my previous "Styling tips for today" post, I have wrote about stripes: matching the long-sleeve, stripes tee with a cropped jacket.

Now, as for Spring 2012, Derek Lam has launched his 10 Crosby line with lots of stripes, especially the black-and-white stripes as a complement to the Spring style (bright, flowery). Not only it would flatter the outfits, but also it gave an unexpected pattern pop..

Here are the lookbook from 10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2012 RTW:

Black-and-white stripes with flowery prints:

Besides 'the stripes', I also love this 'graphic, color block' look:
The bright graphic, color-blocked, diamond-printed pants matched with the black waxed-cotton top (that looks like leather).

And, this bright yellow maxi dress:
How if we give this bright look a well-tailored black-and-white-stripes jacket/blazer?
What do you think? ;)

So, do you like this style?

Boko Temple and Merapi Volcano's foot-hills

Inspiration
The scenery from above..

My latest trips are to Ratu Boko Temple and to Merapi Volcano's foot-hills. My family and I really enjoyed these trips. We call our trips 'Friday Fun' because we have been mostly doing trips on Friday, after the Jummah prayer.

On October 7th, 2011, we went to Ratu Boko's site, or popularly called as Candi Boko/Boko Temple. The temple was located up high on a hill. There were so many stairs to get us up there to the temple. But, it was worth it because up there the beautiful scenery was waiting for us to see.. :) Or, we can go up higher to the Candi Boko's view-tower for more scenery from above. From there you could also see the Prambanan Temple, rice-fields, roads, trains ran on their rails, and airplanes which about to landed on or just about took off from the Adi Sucipto airport.

And these are the selected pictures from Candi Boko (photographed by me):

The scenery from above (from Ratu Boko Temple's view-tower):
It was a part of Yogyakarta and Klaten city.

Me.. in front of Pendopo Putri (Princess' place), Candi Boko:
Behind me there was a field where some sheep being pastured. There were also some deer that put into an area bordered by fences.

(The pic was took by my 4 years old son.. ^_^ )

Then, on October 14th, 2011, we went to the Merapi Volcano's natural conservation area (or, in Bahasa Indonesia, we call it: Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi).

Last year, in early November 2010 (it's exactly one year now), Merapi Volcano erupted. It was one of Merapi's massive eruption. Everything in this conservation area at that time was devastated and covered by thick dust, sands, and also stones. Many houses and trees was buried by clinker, sand, and dust. The super-hot clouds (in Javanese: wedhus gembel) that came out of the volcano's crater passed by this area and burned everything underneath they passed.

These selected pictures are from Merapi Volcano's foot-hills where everything are starting back to "green":

Unfortunately, while we were there, the weather was cloudy, so we could not see the Merapi Volcano.

Me, my uncle, and a local man (the sentence in the picture, in English means: "Watch out to the precipice behind !")

Voila! Ready-to-wear Scarves by Bokitta

Lebanese Hijab Style

Recently I had been emailed by Hala Absi, the founder of Bokitta. If you do not know yet about Bokitta, let me introduce you to this interesting clothing line which cater for hijab-wearing Muslim women.

According to their introduction to me, Bokitta is a new international brand for Lebanon-based hijab design house. It is known for its quality innovative garments produced with style and lots of colors.

The name 'Bokitta' was came from by combining the word "bouquet", meaning an arrangement, and added the "itta" to refer to the lady. So Bokitta meant to be the 'bouquet of colors', an arrangement of matching, bright and colorful scarves and clothing for hijabis.

Right now they have two stores in Lebanon: one in Beirut Mall and another in Saida Mall.

One of their fashion invention lately is the new patented Voila! (came from the word "voile", "veil", meaning veil). It is a stylish pre-wrapped ready-to-wear scarf (so, Voila! means the ready veil). "Voila! scarves was made from selected fabrics and designed with special attention to cultural and fashion styles", said Hala.

Put these scarves on is so easy; No more hassle in wrapping scarves and no pins required.

Check the video below to see Bokitta's stunning Voila! scarves in action:

Along with Voila! scarves, they have developed the matching concepts brand of shirts, bodies, and skirts.

For more information about Bokitta Clothing Line, you can check out their interviews with Hijab Style and Hijab Trendz's blog here; And, see all their collection on facebook or on their website: www.bokitta.com.

Casual street-style of Frida Gustavsson

Style Inspiration for today

From the Best-Dressed Poll on Style.com magazine, here is Frida Gustavsson's style on the street:

 Source: Style.com

She wore a coral, over-sized sweater with a pair of blue jeans, and a simple, red, rectangle handbag with small dots on the edge and a hand-strand, matched with a statement necklace and a pair of feminine pumps.

A simple, edgy, casual style from Frida Gustavsson that you can easily achieve..

For the headscarf, you can wear a GREY-coloured headscarf, as Frida used that colour for her tee under the sweater (it peeked out of her sweater's neckline). That neutral colour grey will tone down the color of the sweater and, on the other hand, will bold out the necklace.

Grey Scarves

Grey Scarves by fashioningfaith featuring Burberry embellished-pocket wool-blend scarf

Hijab styling tips:
Wear the necklace with a LONG strand (so it won't be hid by the scarf; Or, place it over the scarf), and wear the blue jeans in a slight WIDE cut.

Exclusive Interview: Zeena Clothing

Modest, Chic Clothing Shop

Today, Fashioning Faith brings you an exclusive interview with the head designer and founder of ZEENA Clothing Line, Bayan Jondy. Along with her sister, Amany Jondy, she designs this demure women's clothing line and oversees the manufacturing, marketing, fulfillment, and customer service. They have launched Zeena's spring line in February, followed by Zeena's summer line in June. Early in this month they launched Zeena's latest collection, the fall line.

Read on the quick 'Questions and Answers' with Bayan Jondy below to find out more about Zeena:

Rania: What is Zeena and how did it begin?

Bayan Jondy: Zeena is a boutique women's clothing line, available exclusively at simplyzeena.com. Zeena means 'natural beauty' and our clothing line strives to enhance the natural beauty every woman possesses in a stylish yet demure way. Zeena started with designing clothes for myself because I could not find what I was looking for at traditional department stores and boutiques. Along the way, I received lots of feedback from my family and friends. I didn't realize how many other women had the same problem I was having. The response was so overwhelmingly positive it gave me confirmation that there was an underserved segment of the fashion market for me to tap into.

Rania: What was the inspiration behind Zeena?

Bayan Jondy: The inspiration behind Zeena was my passion to be fashionable & demure both at the same time, and the lack of alternatives at established retail outlets. I love styles that are chic, sophisticated & detailed, and I am now able to incorporate those elements into my designs. I design floor length skirts & long shirts that do not require slips, layering &/or cover ups.

Rania: What style and types of clothing are you looking to provide through Zeena?

Bayan Jondy: Today, Zeena offers an array of styles & designs: shirts, skirts, scarves, wraps, accessories & jewelry, both casual & dressy. So far, we have launched spring, summer, and fall lines, in an effort to keep up with the latest trends and offer our customers a greater selection. We plan on expanding our designs & products season after season to ensure our customers are fully satisfied.

Zeena gray cotton wrap.
Zeena purple hydrangea satin silk scarf.

Rania: What has been the biggest challenge you've faced so far in setting up your brand?

Bayan Jondy: The biggest challenge thus far has been marketing Zeena. Hopefully this interview will help! The fashion space is crowded, and new designers are always coming out. More often than not, they don't stick with it and focus on marketing instead of their product. We've taken the opposite approach - focusing on our products for two years before we even started marketing heavily. That has enabled us to deliver high-quality and affordable products, and has set us up to keep delivering them season after season.

Rania: Tell us more about your new Fall collection.

Bayan Jondy: Our new Fall collection is definitely chic. Small details with soft colors on every design give each piece style and comfort. For the first time, we've added suits, which are of course a must have for every working woman. This season's inspiration was based on staple pieces that every woman needs in her closet.

The Looks from Zeena's latest Fall collection:

Rania: When and where can we purchase your designs?

Bayan Jondy: The Fall, Summer, and Spring collections are all available now via our online store at www.simplyzeena.com!

Rania: Thank you for your time, and I wish you all the best with Zeena.

Latest Designs in Headscarf

New Headscarf-Looks.

As long as I know, there are new designs in headscarf lately. Few of them that I noticed are from Rabia Z. and Maysaa collection.

1. Rabia Z.

Rabia Z. has launched two new designs in headscarf. The designs are called: Rabia Z. signature gathered-top jersey sheyla and Rabia Z. signature gathered-cowl-neck jersey sheyla.

I really want these sheyla so bad.. but, they are just too pricy for me ;)

Here are the looks of the signature sheylas/shawls:

Besides Rabia Z. collection, one online hijab shop that I know also sells this kind of scarf/sheyla is Amalia Collection which is based in Sydney, Australia. They call their design of this sort of shawl: Hot Turban Style shawl. The fabric is cotton jersey.

In colour: matte brown.

These shawls also come in thin cotton fabric (or in Indonesia, we used to call this fabric: Paris) with Leopard prints on it:

You can see their colletion of these shawls here on their facebook page.

2. Maysaa.com

Maysaa (with the designer, Hana Tajima-Simpson) also launch their new collection in headscarf. It is not really a brand new one, but it was a new production of the past Maysaa signature chiffon scarf snood.

This scarf have been famous for its distinctive design and its sophisticated-edgy look. Here are the new production of this scarf snood:

Hijab Tutorials by HijUp and Dila&Zata Shop

For a week round, I was searching for online Islamic clothing stores, especially those which based in Indonesia. I found some that impressed me (whether it's because the style they're bringing up or the affordable prices they are offering). Many of them based their stores on Facebook.

Few stores also share their tutorials in hijab styling. I've picked two of the stores that I thought their tutorials are interesting, easy to follow, and suit for 'everyday style':

1. Hijup.com
It is a new online Islamic clothing shop based in Indonesia. What is interesting about this shop, besides the cool hijab tutorials on their site, is they collected boutiques/collection from some Indonesian Muslimah Fashion designers, such as Shabby Chic by Ria Miranda, Anemone by Hannie Hananto, Casa Elana by Fifi, Hanna, and Anneke, Mainland Heritage, Delisha Hijab, etc., then united them into one website; So, we can visit all the boutiques in one site and buy them online.

If you are interested in Indonesian Hijab Fashion, you can check out the site here.

And here are the hijab tutorials by HijUp.com:

a la Hana Tajima:

2. Dila&Zata Shop.
It's an online hijab fashion store founded by two best friends, Dila and Zata. I met and be friended with them in Hijabers Community Yogyakarta (we are just know for a while and not very close, or even they might be not remember me anymore.. hehe, because I do not attend HCY's events very often). But, I can tell that they are kind, friendly... and very stylish! I adore their style and like the hijab tutorials they taught, either it's offline, like at HCY-Dixie's mini fashion show last Ramadhan, or via their blog or Facebook page.

Here are some hijab tutorials by Dila&Zata Shop which they share online:
The styles are simple yet chic.

(Courtesy of Dila&Zata Shop)

Dila&Zata Shop sells chic hijab fashion. I love their collection: it's young, chic, with  fresh colors. One item I would like to buy but already 'sold out' is their inner hood. It can be wore as an inner scarf or wore the way it is.

They said they will have another production on this inner hood.

Hi, Dila&Zata, let me know if you already had them in black and pink! Thank you.. :)
