'Buff' Headgear

Multifunction headwear for hijabi

I came across pictures of 'buff' in one of sport magazines, and I think "Wow, this is cool! It's very useful for hijabi like us". It can cover your hair, neck, half of your face, and it can be used as headband/underscarf, or use it to tie your hair.

Buff is a multifunctional tubular headwear, that mostly wore by male or female bikers as a functional accessories to accompany their biking activities. But this headwear can also be wore for many sport activities.

Some of you perhaps already know about this headwear. I was amused by the fact that it resembles Amirah Hijab and by its multifunction. And I think it would make a good headband or sport hijab... ^_^.

According to kitshack.com,
Original Buff® keeps you warm in the cold, wick-moisture and keeps you cool when it’s hot. The lightweight, breathable, moisture wicking fabric is wind resistant and extremely comfortable to wear. Material: 100% Polyester Microfibre. Seam Free: No irritating seams or hems.

Buff also comes in great variety; there's a buff that formulated for UV protection, wind block, repels insects, and buff for Winter; in all sorts of colors, prints, and lengths.

What do you think of 'buff'? Isn't it cool?

I want one! :)

Style Crush: LAKI's Winter Looks

Looks I love from LAKI Fashion

(Photos: Courtesy of LAKI; Images source: LAKI's album on facebook)

LAKI (means "for you" in feminine form in Arabic) is a romantic yet adventurous brand founded by Asma Alami. Based on King Faisal Road, Sharjah, UAE, they claimed that LAKI is the home of contemporary Arabian style.

I love their original, feminine, and bold style. A perfect match between edgy outfits and flowing feminine-look scarves with fresh colors. I love how they add a red rose to a black-and-white dotted scarf, the add of statement necklace and bracelet, the scarves' prints; and also I love the way the headscarves was wrapped.

Check out LAKI's facebook page to see more style from them.

Hard to Find Plus-Size Clothes?

Yet another reason

Why more plus-size clothes don't exist? Especially in America where nearly 65% of American women are overweight, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, and of those, more than 35% are obese. Yet most designer collections end at size 10.

According to L.A. Times, the reason is design students never learn how to make them! Or so say Rosemary Brantley, chairwoman of fashion design at L. A.'s Otis College of Art and Design, and other fashion academics. "They have no interest in plus-size design." Brantley also said that "Creating stylish clothing for larger women isn't as simple as making bigger sizes of existing styles."

Why?

Hijab Tutorial: My Simple Square-Scarf Style

Daily Style

Not like the conventional square-hijab wrap that fold the square-hijab diagonally into triangle shape, this style need to fold the square-hijab into half (rectangle shape). This style is very easy and quick to do, and I love how the scarf drape in the front. It also adds more cover-ups to the bossom area.

Here's the step by step:
1. Fold the square scarf into half (rectangle shape).
2. Put the scarf (that has been folded) on your head with one side of the scarf is longer than another side, and pin it below your chin.
3. Take the edge of the longer side of the scarf, then pull it over your head. Then pin the upper end-tip of the scarf on the top of your head (not too high) with a brooch or any other hijab accessories.

Very simple, right?

This hijab wrap will look like this:

From the back:

Bring the flowing part (of the scarf) at the back to the front, like I used to.

Or, let it be like that, but if you do this, it'd be better to take a bit part of the scarf from the back and pin it on your shoulder to make sure your neck doesn't show up (especially if you wear clothes with low neckline).

Review: Mahi Gown from iLoveModesty.com

Remember my previous post about my waiting for a giveaway that I won from iLoveModesty.com (an online Canadian Fashion Boutique)?

Yes, I have received it! I received the parcel on September 30, 2010. It's a very long awaiting. The parcel has been sent from Mississauga, ON Canada, on August 11, 2010. So It took almost two months for the parcel to arrive at the post office near my place! Then, I took it myself at the post office. This is a short story about it:

At the first time I went to the post office and found that my parcel haven't arrived yet, the post office's officer
asked me the delivery number of the parcel, so they can trace the parcel. But, I can't give it to them. I said I didn't have that number and I will ask about it to the parcel's sender.

On the next day I asked Neelam from iLoveModesty about it. She said there's no delivery number on the receipt, and the post office in Canada didn't have it too. So, Neelam sent me the copy of the delivery receipt. I brought the copy of the receipt to the post office here, and they told me to wait. They will call me when the parcel has arrived. So I didn't have to go there over and over again just to check whether my parcel has arrived or not.

The post office's officer said to me that the parcel perhaps already arrived in Indonesia but it must go through the Customs' procedur first (open, check the content, and then wrap it again; we even also have to pay the cost to wrap the parcel again) before it sent to the post office here. The delayed perhaps because it get stucked in this procedur.

Hmmm... but I think it shouldn't take so much time. The Customs and the post offices here should improve their service. But Neelam said maybe a case like this didn't happen very often. Perhaps it's just my unlucky day... :)

Now, back to the dress I got from iLoveModesty!

First thing, this is a very late review. Over the last few days, I didn't have time to take pictures of the gown. And here's the review... ^_^:

(Photos above: courtesy of iLoveModesty)

The dress, called Mahi Gown, arrived bubble-wrapped and in the customary brown envelope. Inside the envelope, the dress was wrapped with a red paper and a sticker with iLoveModesty's name and address on it.

First Impression: How does it look and feel on?
IT LOOKS SOOO LOVELY... and looks exactly the same with the picture on iLoveModesty's website.

I love the colors and the color combination of this dress: pink, purple, white, and silver. The flower embroidery looks beautiful. I also love the two colour tiered skirt at the bottom overlay with an embroidered net lace.

It feels so comfortable to wear. It's not heavy, soft, and not heat inducing.

What is the material like?
The embroidered net line is like the lace or 'brocade' fabrics that we have here, in Indonesia. In Indonesia there are a wide range of net lace like this. It's BEAUTIFUL. The silver threads on embroidered flowers also add a beautiful effect on that dress.

The silk materials feels so soft and light. Overall, the dress is off good quality workmanship. According to the website, the material of the dress are silk, rayon, and net, and it needs hand wash or dry-clean only.

The fit-nes on my body:
The dress fit perfectly on my body. It drapes beautifully and modestly. But the length of the dress is too long for me, even when I added a pair of high heels.

I think this can happen because I didn't sent them my height and they also didn't ask me for it. I just looked up at the size chart of body measurement on iLoveModesty's site. There are only size chart for bust, waist, and hip, not include the height. So, according to that chart, I sent them the measurement of my bust, waist, and hip only, and that means that my measurement fall on size S.

Perhaps that's why the dress is too long for me. Now I must do some 'make over' at the bottom of the dress.

Wearability:
The dress available in short sleeves and long sleeves (on request). I got the short sleeves' one. This versatile embroidered-net dress, just like a lace dress, is more suited to be wore to very dressy occasions. According to the website, this gown is meant to be a Summer-style party dress.

It could be wear with a white, red maroon, or pink blazer, paired with a pink/maroon 'big flower' belt. Or, wear it with a white long-sleeves tee inside.

And one more thing, there's no zipper at the back or side of the dress. You should wear it from the bottom's side of the dress. For me, I like this. Note, if you order this dress in a 'fit-size', or if you have a wide shoulder, or if the size of your bust is much bigger than your waist's size, there's a possibility that the dress can not slide down smoothly on your body, or even it can't slide down on your body at all.

What are the cons?
  • There are a few very tiny not so good stitching at the bottom of this gown. But they're very very tiny which is not obvious... :)
  • About the price, for me, who live in Indonesia, it's a bit expensive. Note that to determine the price (whether it's expensive or not) depends on where country do we live in and our financial ability... :)
    Any other thoughts?
Overall, I LOVE THIS GOWN! It's so gorgeous and comfort to wear.

One thing that need more attention is for clothing orders. The website should ask about the height of the 'Wear-er'.

The service is excellent! Neelam kindly gave her attention on whether I've got my parcel or not. She even told me that if the parcel has lost, she would sent me another one... :) Thank you so much, Neelam.

    Would you recommend this gown?
YES, DEFINITELY! It's gorgeous and I feel so beautiful and elegant in it... :)

Have you tried any of iLoveModesty products? What do you think?

    Note:
I get this FREE, a gift courtesy of iLoveModesty from a competition I entered. The review is just my honest opinion. Hope it would be helpful for those who need it... :)

Just a Little Thoughts and Another Daily Outfit

First of all I want to thank to all Fashioning Faith's readers for all their feedback, love, support, and reminders, that keep me motivated to make improvement and to do my best to be better and better each day. I really appreciate that.

Recently, I got an email from one of my readers, Rosi Vela, who said that there were too many posts about luxurious things/clothes on my blog that most of us can't afford to buy. I introspect myself... and I think perhaps it because I wrote too many Chanel or Irna La Perle on my blog... ^_^

I didn't mean at all to encourage my readers to buy luxurious things. My posts about 'luxurious things' such as clothing line from the runway fashion, celebrities or 'whats in style now' were intended to show various styles/designs out there that I love, and these are ONLY for STYLE/DESIGNS INSPIRATION.

I just want to show various possible style that we can adapt to our own style, and show that we can also be 'ourself'... be 'original' in our hijab... :)

For our daily outfits, we can pick up something we love from the style, and then implement it on our daily style with some 'make over' or 'adaption' to meet/fit our own taste and our own concept/standard of modesty. For example when we want to design/sew our own abaya/dresses, or when we want to mix-match pieces of clothes in our wardrobes.

I'm an ordinary woman too, just like most of you, who can't also afford to buy luxurious things. I just love to see designers' clothing line and people's style on the street... :)

And I agree with what Jana of Hijab Style has said that

‘Fashion’ is not necessarily about what’s ‘hot’, or the latest fad, or having the most expensive designer gear. For me it’s about being creative within my limits, those primarily being price, availability and hijab-appropriateness of clothes. It’s about combining things tastefully and experimenting with fabrics, cuts and colours. It doesn’t have to be ostentatious.
I think it's about build up our own style that is comfort for us with pride and happiness.

Regarding to the email, perhaps I need to try to do more posts that are more 'down to earth', that are closer to our daily life, styles from 'real-life' Muslimahs (I mean not from Runway or Celebs). Perhaps more posts on muslimahs' style on the street or posts about tips/style from my own outfits, and how to mix-match clothes?

But, I do think that I might continue to post article/photos from Runways and Designers, or models on Magazine which I love that can be a source of style inspiration for Muslim women.

Anyway, thank you for the feedback. Hope you can always give your feedback to me... :)

So, today I post about my daily outfit. The piece of clothes that I wore to the wedding party yesterday. In Indonesia, particularly in my city, we usually wear 'Batik' to attend wedding parties or formal occasions. And here I am in my favorite 'vintage' Batik dress from my Grandma with 'wayang' picture on it.

It's an 'original' batik ('Batik Tulis') which means that the picture/patterns on that dress was made/drew by hands (uses a manual wax-resist dyeing), not by computerized printing techniques or machines, and the fabric is 'kain mori' (that is so comfort to wear).

I added an off white belt made of coral stones look-alike and a long earing to spice up the look.

Hi... hii... :) I'm not so confident for doing this. But I hope it would be helpful :)

Note: Wait for my review about Mahi Gown (from iLoveModesty.com) on my next post! :)

"O ye Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness,- that is the best. Such are among the Signs of Allah, that they may receive admonition! (Al Qur'an, Surah 7: 26)

    Elegant Abaya by Amal Murad

    From Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection

Amal Murad is a fashion abaya designer from Dubai, UAE. She launched her fashion abaya collection under the REDAA brand name. For this Fall-Winter, there are some gorgeous abaya in their collection.

And here's Redaa abaya I love from Amal Murad's abayas collection:

    (Photo: Courtesy of Amal Murad)

So beautiful and sophisticated. Simple but in a perfect construction.

And I love how accessories were added. A good choice... a beautiful belt matched with the bag, and a pair of 'bling-bling' shoes. I think this abaya would be perfect for your 'Red Carpet' moment... :)

Sneak a Peek: Friniggi Sportswear's First Designs

Fatima from Friniggi Sportswear, a new sportswear shop for Muslim women, emailed me about their first collection. The designs are in progress and she'd like to give us sneak-a-peek about Friniggi's first collection and would love to hear your feedback.

Here are the sketches. Remember that these designs fall under the copyright of FRINIGGI SPORTSWEAR.

    Black and white sketch:

    Colour Sketch:
    (Pictures: Courtesy of FRINIGGI Sportswear)

    According to Fatima,
"Friniggi focuses on developing a simple concept, fusing Islamic modesty, modern design and athletic performance.
The designs are made to be versatile garments that can be easily to be matched with any sportswear you may already have. The tops are long-sleeved and knee-length tops that can be worn over any track pants in your wardrobe, and no need to worry whether those pair of pants are too tight, because the tops cover everything.
Some items come with a matching hijab, but the design sketches above do not include the hijabs, and the colours schemes are just for illustrative purposes."
The designs look comfortable enough. I just want to add my opinion that I think it would be better if the tops' length is a bit above the knees, so it won't disturb/block our movement in sport activities and we can move more freely.

What do you think of Friniggi's sportswear designs? Love it? Hate it? Do you have any suggestions?

What kind of sportswear do you wish to have?

After I read the latest article on StyleCovered recently, I browsed Michael van der Ham's Spring 2011 collection, and found that the collection is really such an inspiring thing!

The 'Mixed Plays' between mini - maxi, tight - flowing loose, different fabrics, and each solid colors, are sooo brilliant!

Style Inspiration for daily outfits: As a hijabi, to show the mixed length thing, we can do the reverse. Instead of wearing 'open' flowing maxi over mini, we can wear flowing loose mini over full-length classic-fit maxi! And use different solid color for each length to highlights the mix... :)

    What do you think?

(Photo credit: PicApp/Getty via Red Carpet-Fashion Awards)

I love their black blazers, the black high-waisted skirt wore by Vanessa, the chic knit Chanel dress wore by Keira, and the shoooes... (Vanessa wore Chanel's and Keira wore Miu Miu's). Effortlessly sophisticated!

For hijab-friendly look, just add the long of the dress/skirt to the ankles, cover up the open-bossom (as seen on Vanessa's look) by wear a white tank-top inside the white blouse or change the blouse into another white bow tied blouses that do not 'open-front', and put on the matching scarf over the head. It could be a gold, black, or white scarf. Or perhaps, a red or yellow scarf?

What do you think? Which color of hijab you will put on this look?
