Spring Casual

Featuring DVF Loves Current/Elliott for S/S 2012

This past recent week, I've been in the mood of casual outfits. Perhaps it is because of the hot weather in my hometown these days and my high activities that need me to move with ease.

My days were filled up with shirts, blouses, tees (my favorite this week is my navy stripes tee), jeans, pants, lightweight skirts or maxis, completed with breathable cotton-linen headscarves. For layering stuffs, I chose to wear a thin, lightweight blazer or jacket over the outfit.

Then I recently popped over Shopbop.com and let me tell you, there are a bunch of exciting stuffs and new designs coming out for this Spring/Summer collection...

In regard to my mood for 'Casual Looks' this recent week, I automatically got attracted to some pieces in casual style... The first pieces that were catching my eyes are from Diane von Furstenberg Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces I picked from the collection:

The vintage-printed jeans:
DVF Denim
will be a perfect match with one of my favorite tops, the denim wrap shirt-dresses:
DVF dress
By adding this collarless silk chiffon blouse under the denim wrap dress above,
Silk chiffon blouse
the look surprisingly looks fresh and chic! :)

I really love on how the model was styled up by combining the two tops above... the denim wrap dress with the collarless silk floral-printed blouse under, and then accessorized them with a skinny leather belt.
DVF belts.
Other favorite pieces are the silk blouse and pants:

Some beautiful, fresh prints, flowy dresses:
Silk-chiffon Naira dress
Lehana dress
Hijab styling tips: Style them up with a chic cropped blazer and a pair of pants/jeans (or even adding an H-line ankle-graze skirt under the Lehana dress).

Two fabulous pairs of Spring shoes:

A scarf in "Spring colours" combined with black-and-white stripes:
Linescape scarf
Some gorgeous clutches:
Leather large envelope clutch
Embossed crocodile clutch

Anything you are particularly loving, too?

You can see the whole collection here.

Happy weekend! :)

Fresh Looks of the classic black-and-white stripes

Fashion trends

Continue from my latest post about the black-and-white stripes (matched with a bright, floral Spring style) as a Spring Fashion Trend from the 10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2012, I would like to share my finds recently on this trend. I stumbled upon two girls who pull off this trend fabulously.

The first look that caught my eyes is from Tokyo Fashion (August, 2011) which featured this young girl, named Sagano, on the street in Harajuku. She was stand out for the contrast of her outfit; a bright red lipstick matched by the red apple-shaped handbag and the red platforms of her heels, paired with a patchwork skirt, and contrasted with a black-and-white striped button-up top.

The second look is from Indonesia fashion icon in the world of Muslimah Fashion, Dian Pelangi. Not only sporting and styling her own hijab style fabulously on her blog, The Merchant Daughter, she is also a young fashion designer specializing in tie-dye technique. The look I found below was on the latest post in her blog. She styled up a black-and-white striped maxi dress with a bright yellow-mustard cardigan and a printed headscarf in the same hue with the cardigan.

Will you try out this style?

You can try with other floral prints and other bright colours, such as tosca green, coral, fuchsia, pink, orange, or even neon/cobalt blue.

Styling tips: To pull off this style successfully, remember to keep your accessories (bag, shoes, jewelries) in the same hue and stay within the same color family as the floral-printed one; Or, keep the accessories in fairly neutrals or nude colors (such as: grey, khaki, beige/cream, light brown, navy blue, white, or black) to keep everything together and look coordinated without too matchy. At last, the most important thing you need is be confident.. to make this style work for you.. :)

Black-and-White Stripes as a match (or a fab clash?) to the Bright and the Flowery

Spring style:
From the 10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

In my previous "Styling tips for today" post, I have wrote about stripes: matching the long-sleeve, stripes tee with a cropped jacket.

Now, as for Spring 2012, Derek Lam has launched his 10 Crosby line with lots of stripes, especially the black-and-white stripes as a complement to the Spring style (bright, flowery). Not only it would flatter the outfits, but also it gave an unexpected pattern pop..

Here are the lookbook from 10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2012 RTW:

Black-and-white stripes with flowery prints:

Besides 'the stripes', I also love this 'graphic, color block' look:
The bright graphic, color-blocked, diamond-printed pants matched with the black waxed-cotton top (that looks like leather).

And, this bright yellow maxi dress:
How if we give this bright look a well-tailored black-and-white-stripes jacket/blazer?
What do you think? ;)

So, do you like this style?

Wardrobe pieces for your best look this Spring!

Style Tips for Today

Instyle.com recently featured six easy pieces for a figure-flattering wardrobe for Spring. Here, I picked up for you the hijab-friendly pieces that you can use to add a little flattery to your look this Spring!

Rosy hue blazer

A loose, long-sleeved, print tunic dress
Joy Bryant and Kim Kardashian and Michelle Monaghan

Left to right: Michelle Monaghan, Joy Bryant and Kim Kardashian.

Note: Definitely, for a hijab-ready look, you must wear this tunic dress with your sleeveless maxidress underneath; Or, paired the tunic with a long skirt or pants; Then, complete the look with a matching headscarf.

Lace tops
Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon and Whitney Port
GSI Media, Flynet, Mattel / Splash News
Left to right: Reese Witherspoon, Kate Bosworth and Whitney Port.

Note: Lace top is very versatile and flattering, but, for us, a hijabi, it's a bit tricky. Just make sure that you layer the lace underneath so it won't be see-through. The other way, wear it with your plain hue maxidress underneath, with the same color with the lace top, or with different colors to highlight the lace's motifs.

Jean jacket
Emmy Rossum and January Jones and Rashida Jones

Printed, floor-dusting skirt
Left to right: Jessica Alba, Akerman, and Palermo

For the maxi skirts, you can choose them with or without tiers or ruffles. The narrow shape with horizontal tiers or ruffles will add the leg-lengthening effect to your look.

So have fun with your wardrobe! :)

Runway Looks I Love in Spring Jackets

For some countries, Winter has gone by... and now is time for Spring!

In Spring, sometimes we also want to put on a jacket, whether it's for keeping us warm from the chill of spring, or as a shield from the wind, or to layer up our sleeveless-tops, or simply for a fashion statement... :) We will definitely avoid to choose the 'heavy' ones.

To find the perfect jackets for Spring I stumbled upon a site, womens-fashion.lovetoknow.com.

It has many fashion tips and there is a slide showing some women's spring fashion jackets 'in action' on the Runway.

The light-weight fabrics are a great aspect for spring jackets.. added with fresh colors, pretty styling and designs fit for warmer temps, the jackets would be perfect to be wore over your spring outfits and be your wardrobe staples.

Here are my pick-up ones that I'd like to share with you:

Light-Weight Jacket

D & G Jacket
This jacket adds the extra layer without obscuring a pretty outfit. Versatile khaki works well for spring, and details like rough hems and covered buttons add texture to a simple jacket.

White Jacket

Dries Van Noten Jacket
A white spring jacket. From loose casual blazers to short cropped jackets, white is a perfect fresh color for the season and works well with everything from light prints dresses to jeans and tees.

Sheer Jacket

John Galliano Jacket
The sheer jacket adds depth and interest to your ensemble without adding bulk.

Light Denim Jacket

Express Jacket
A light denim jacket looks sensational paired with a pretty floral print blouse.

Bright Colors Jacket

Gucci Jacket
A short jacket in a bright, bold hue, such as this blazer-style jacket in tangerine, adds a splash of sunny color to any outfit.

Glam Jacket

Balmain Jacket
For spring evenings, a lightweight jacket with added detail, like this embellished jacket, can add flair and a glamorous vibe to your look.

Which one is your favorite?
