Accessorizing your Headscarf!

Accessories, such as: brooches, necklaces, long earrings, pins, ribbons, imitation or fresh flowers (orchid, lilies, roses, sunflower) could spice up your hijab looks.

If you have a pair of, or just one, long earrings, necklace, or flowery bandana, you could use it as an accessories for your hijab/headscarf. I usually use brooches, necklaces, ribbons, or long earrings, as the accessories on my headscarf... ^_^

Or, you could spice up your hijab looks by doing some layering stuff, using double scarves or adding ribbon, headband, hat, imitation flower, etc.

a picture I took from one of hijab shops
accessorizing with imitation flower

a necklace as hijab accessories
this ribbon's very cheap, only $ 0.4
you could move the ribbon to the back of your head

the magnetic necklace
hijab pin
a long earring
a brooch

The way I put these accessories:
Long earrings: Just wrap your headscarf as usual and then wear the earrings the way we normally wear on our ears, just put into the earring-hole on your ears. And because the earrings are long, they could show up out of your hijab.

If you wear one earring on one of your ears, it would look like a brooch on your neck... ;)

Necklace: Just put the necklace around your head. Try to fit the necklace to your head size. Then, pin the necklace with hijab pins, so it would stick on your headscarf.

My favorite is my magnetic necklace, I don't have to pin it on my headscarf, just put it around my head and the necklace will easily to tighten around my head to fit it up, and the necklace's chains will stick to each other because of its magnetic wave.

Here are several beautiful brooches I found from Amazon.com, but the prices is a bit high:

I also love the accessories from these online accessories shops:

"Be Reds"

Chinese New Year Party 2010

Actually, me personally do not like the color red as my outfit. I think it's too bright, and I don't like to be the center of attention... :) I almost never wear reds. But this time, there is an event at my children's kindergarten school, an introducing to Chinese culture on this recently Chinese new year. The dresscode is: Chinese style or red outfit.

I really want to wear one of Chinese dress or accessories, I think they are beautiful, but unfortunately I don't have any of them. There are many stores that sell these kind of items, but I think I will choose to just wear red outfit because I already have one. So it will saving my budget... :)

Surprisingly, 'reds' brighten up my outfit beautifully, and I love to look at myself in the pictures wearing 'reds'... ^_^

Hijab Inspirations from New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010: Richard Chai and Charlotte Ronson

Richard Chai: Lots and Lots of Layering

This week's Hijab Inspirations come from the runway at the Richard Chai Fall 2010 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Promenade at Bryant Park on February 11, 2010 in New York City.

This time on the runway Fashion Show, Richard Chai offers a great selection from his Fall Collection. There were lots and lots of layering, with wide silky trousers slung beneath grey woollen turtle-neck knits, and chiffon dresses thrown over long-sleeved blouses. Layered with a sweater, a vest, or a neat well-tailored blazer. Models stomped down the runway in Timberland Boot Company's lace-up shoes.

A Sneak Peek!: Vela's Pre Spring 2010 Collection and Pearl Daisy's February 2010 New Offers

Vela

Vela was founded by Marwa Atik and Nora Diab, Hijab Designers in America.

At first, their brand name is Marwa & Nora Co., and then they officially changed it to Vela. The word 'vela' came from the word 'veil', which is derived from the Latin term "Vela" meaning veils.

Vela designs 3 seasonal collections: Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each of their seasonal collections comes with about 15 new pieces and also a selection of their best sellers. Vela's collection are designed and handmade by Marwa and Nora themself. Notice that these girls are designers, so they don't do custom orders... the only custom orders they do is for Bridal Collection.

Vela has a mission to create and design fashionable/unique hijabs. They said:

"Almost every Middle Eastern country has a certain style and way to wear the Hijab, and now its time to show them what Muslim Americans can come up with!"
Vela scarves can be used multipurposely. The scarves are made to be worn as Hijabs as well as used to be worn around the neck. They also offer an internationally shipping for overseas orders.

You could take a sneak in Vela's Pre Spring 2010 Collection that's coming out in a month on their Facebook Album. Here is the collections.

Wear Purple Hijab on February 13

Purple Hijab Day

We have already now about Global Pink Hijab Day on October 28th, 2009, it's about breast cancer awareness to support of Breast Cancer Victims, Survivors, and their loved ones, and to support scientific researches on breast cancer.

How about Purple Hijab Day? What is it?
Purple Hijab Day is a day that all women (muslimah and otherwise) should come together to stand up against domestic abuse against women. Physical, emotional, psychological & sexual are all forms of domestic abuse, don't stand by if a loved one is being affected.

Sadly there are far too many fellow muslimahs who will remain silent victims of domestic violence, we NEED to lend a voice!

What can YOU do to help? Google it, retweet some of these messages, wear purple on February 13th, open dialog with others about Purple Hijab day.

Only 2 more days until Purple Hijab Day, wear purple to show your support against domestic violence!
